Welcome to Class 1
Welcome to class 1, Mrs Rees. In Class 1 we enjoy learning through play in our indoor and outdoor area. This term we will be doing a variety of teacher and child led activities such as exploring, gardening and den building.
We will be sharing lots of our learning experiences with you so keep checking our website and Twitter page for photographs of the fun we will be having this term.
Our learning this term
Using the book ‘The Great Explorer’, embracing child led exploration and fun activities in both the indoor and outdoor learning environment we will be focusing on:
This term the children will be learning to count in 2’s and 10’s and will begin to read number words. We will be introducing estimating and how to make a sensible estimate of objects. The children will be making direct comparisons when describing hot and cold, length, height and distance e.g. longer/shorter than. We will explore capacity and compare which container holds more or less. We will be using ordinal numbers in our daily activities.
Language, Literacy and communication
We will be recognising rhythm in spoken words and learning how to continue a rhyming string. The children will be showing an awareness of alliteration and rhyme. We will be looking closely at information texts and stories (non-fiction/fiction) and exploring the differences between them. We will be making meaning from features of texts e.g. illustrations, photographs, diagrams and charts. The children will be taking part in a variety of writing tasks using language associated with writing e.g. letter, word and sentence. We will be using familiar high frequency words when writing and making regular attempts to spell them and showing awareness of full stops. The children will be continuing with their phonics sessions and decoding skills.
We will be concentrating for lengthening periods and becoming independent learners and thinkers. The children will develop awareness of what they are good at and how they can improve their work.
We will be looking at the changes that happen to their bodies as they exercise and describe the changes to their breathing, heart rate, appearance and feelings.
We will be planting and growing fruit and vegetables. The children will be showing awareness and responsibility for living things and the environment.
Important Dates and Information
This term Reception will take part in a ‘Move up Morning’ to help support the transition from Reception to year 1. The children will spend time with their new teacher and class.
Each week a group of children will be taking home boomerang books to share. The orange book-bag and books will need to be returned to school the following week, the magazine and number game are to keep and share at home.
Reception – Parent Workshops
Staff and children are enjoying the sessions and are looking forward to welcoming more parents this term. Parent feedback has been extremely positive so far, Parents have enjoyed taking part in activities alongside their child.
