Welcome to Class 1
Welcome to Reception, Class 1.
Taught by Mrs Rees, supported in class by Mrs Catherall and Mrs Price; and in our outdoor areas by Mr Jenkins, Miss Pedder, Mrs Bentley, Miss Randle, Miss Hughes and Miss Allen.
Our Themes for 2018 - 2019
Autumn – Families, Food and Celebrations, ‘All about Families’, Usborne.
What will we be learning this term?
In Reception we love to learn through play, and through fun, creative activities both in the classroom and outdoor. We will choose challenges to lead our learning in the indoor and outdoor area, and complete tasks with our teachers.
In Maths we will be consolidating our counting up to and past 10, forwards and backwards and from different starting points through various activities and games. We will be learning the Numicon pieces and the numbers they represent. We will also be sorting various items and ourselves into groups such as hair colour, eye colour etc.
Language, Literacy and communication
We will be learning our letter sounds and matching pictures to the correct initial letter. We will be beginning to write our letters, using the correct formation. In our outdoor area we will be looking for, matching, and writing letter sounds. We will be using our Reading Powers to connect to stories and using our listening skills to visualise and draw our own pictures for stories.
Personal, Social Wellbeing and Cultural Diversity
We will be sharing information about ourselves; what we like, what we are good at and thinking about how our teachers can help us in school. We will be talking about our families, how we have grown up, and what we like to do with our families.
Later in the term we will be finding out about different celebrations, such as Diwali, bonfire night and Christmas. We will explore different foods that are shared at different celebrations and discuss foods that are good for us and foods that are treats.
On the October 16th you are invited to Parent’s Evening to discuss with Mrs Rees how your child has settled in to Reception. On the October 18th the Reception teachers invite you back in to share with you important information about what and how we will be supporting your child, and how you can help your child at home, including reading, writing and reading powers, maths and Numicon and fine motors skills. Please join us to continue to develop our partnership and help give your child the best start in their academic journey.
Following the information evening on 18th October your child will start to bring home a school reading book, as well as their chosen story book. We will aim to read with your child in school at least once a week and ask that you will read with your child every day at home. To support this please ensure your child has a purple book bag to keep their books and reading diary in.
Your child needs a PE kit in school which can stay on their peg and will be sent home at half term to be washed. Our PE day is Thursday. To help your child please support and encourage them to get dressed and undressed with growing independence at home.
Reception children will have the opportunity to access our Forest School once a week with our Forest School leader Miss Randle. Whilst there they enjoy exploring the environment with their friends, learning and reinforcing skills through a variety of challenges and activities and learning about keeping themselves and others safe and risk taking (as well as a little treat sometimes!)
