Du Iz Tak? is the core text for Year 1 and 2 this term. It is a magnificent book by Carson Ellis that follows a year in the life of two woodlice and their friends, and is written entirely in bug language.
The book is beautifully illustrated and requires us to use all of our reading powers to understand what is happening in the story.
We are helping the two main characters, Ikky and Ooky, to find out about their friends and their habitats. We are investigating seasons, as well as food chains and life cycles.
Our big questions are leading all of our activities, and we are choosing how to share all of our research findings. We will be tackling such questions as: Why do spiders eat butterflies? Can we make a Du Iz Tak 2 movie? Can we make homes for the characters in the book and Can we use iPads to research mini-beasts and write facts about them?
